Everlasting love

This week at Take a Word the theme is MONOCHROME or varying shades of one color. My contribution is a photo (with extreme makeover) taken by my mother, at her own request, because from her point of view nothing is more beautiful than a mom breastfeeding her child (or her daughter breastfeeding her first granddaughter):).

Happy day

This week at Take a Word the challenge theme is BALLOONS. I've chosen an old photo of my brother and me to begin with. I cut out the photo and sent the two of us to a beautiful beach, got some huge balloons and the smile was guaranteed.

Background is a photo of mine; texture: Elné.

Lilian and Vera

Take a Word asked for MOTHER AND CHILD and I decided to pay a tribute to these beautiful mother and child: Lilian and Vera Trotter. They died on the night of March 3, 1943, in the Bethnal Green Tube tragedy. I've read about it a few years ago and this photograph made it even more poignant.

Background: Astrid Maclean; texture: Elné; butterflies: Dover.

Family album

To live is so startling it leaves little time for anything else.
Emily Dickinson

Take a Word asked for Family Album. I don't have really old photos then I created a imaginary family from daguerreotypes, taken circa 1850, beginning with Emily Dickinson, then Pastor Rollin Heber Neal (both colored by me).

Grandpa's band

Only recently, when my uncle sent this photography to my father by e-mail, I found out that  my Grandpa was also a musician or at least played in a band. As the challenge this week in The Three Muses is Vintage Family I decided to pay him a tribute.

Kindertotenlieder

In this weather, in this gale, in this windy storm,
they rest as if in their mother's house:
frightened by no storm,
sheltered by the Hand of God.

Take a Word asked for CHILDHOOD and my twisted mind made me wonder that losing a child is the most unbearable pain. It seems that in some way these children remain as kids forever, trapped in an eternal childhood. Then I was taken to Kindertotenlieder (Songs on the Death of Children) composed by Gustav Mahler. The words of the songs are poems by Friedrich Rückert. The original Kindertotenlieder were a group of 428 poems written by Rückert in reaction to the illness and death of two of his children. Mahler selected five of Rückert's poems. It's very beautiful. You can listen to it here.

Background is a photo of mine; texture by Shadowhouse Creations; kids by Hidden Vintage.

Color Me Happy

Hi! The Three Muses have challenged us to take an old black and white photo and place it in or surrounded with color. My parents have recently completed 50 years of marriage and I decided to modernize the old photo album page where their wedding photo rests.

Bits and pieces by Createwing Designs, Caffeine (dA), Angie Young and Pati Araujo.

Father daughter time

Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve,
too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.
Henry Van Dyke

It seems unfair that we at some point have to say goodbye to our parents, but time passes and this time comes eventually. I'm very grateful to have my father around and to be able to spend some time with him almost daily. He's a kind and fun guy and a loving grandfather.

This is my contribution to Take a Word which theme this week is TIME.

Everything happens to everybody sooner or later if there is time enough. George Bernard Shaw

Green

Hello! The theme is GREEN at Take a Word to mark St. Patrick's Day. As I'm not familiarized to the date, I did something personal and added a Leprechaun hanging from a shamrock vine :) .

On the left is my mother, when she was 16 or so, in a B&W photo that was painted afterwards (something common those days), on the right is me, probably when I was 17, in a very poor shot. Coincidently, they are alike in some ways, so I put them together.

Backgrounds: Buzillo Stock (deviantArt) and Beth Rimmer; leprechaun and shamrocks: Google Images.

Letter to Granny

This is my contribution to this week Soartful (angels) and Take a Word (mail) challenges.

I've made it simple, as it was my grandmother. It's adressed in the brazilian way, it means that sender's name and adress go at the back of the envelope;

Angels at the background was given by Jeannete; other two angels are dover's samples. Envelope was used in Brazil in the past for international mail; stamp and postmark are brazilian postal service special edition for 2010 Christmas.
