Two Shots Of Happy, One Shot Of Sad

The Three Muses asked us to take inspiration from SONG LYRICS or a favorite POEM and create something special.  I don't know how I ended up with Two Shots Of Happy, One Shot Of Sad, a song by Bono and The Edge written as a tribute for Frank Sinatra. It was also recorded by Nancy Sinatra, his daughter. I tried not be that obvious, and replace the Jack Daniels by two sweet cats. ^=^

I am woman

Take a Word asked for I AM WOMAN. There was some kind of serendipity as I’ve just finished Unless, by Carol Shields, a study in awakening and the belated loss of innocence. Mainly the author reflects over the role that is reserved to women: "The world is split in two between those who are handed power at birth, at gestation, encoded with a seemingly random chromosome determinate that says yes for ever and ever, and those like Norah, like Danielle Westerman, like my mother, like my mother-in-law, like me, like all of us who fall into the uncoded female otherness in which the power to assert ourselves and claim our lives has been displaced by a compulsion to shut down our bodies and seal our mouths and be as nothing against the fireworks and streaking stars and blinding light of the Big Bang."

Grandpa's band

Only recently, when my uncle sent this photography to my father by e-mail, I found out that  my Grandpa was also a musician or at least played in a band. As the challenge this week in The Three Muses is Vintage Family I decided to pay him a tribute.

Dance to the music

In 2014 dance to the music!

Celebrating the new year the theme in The Three Muses is Color Me Happy.

My color is blue, don't know why, it just makes me happy. 

Besides, the old Hollywood musicals always make me happy.

Futhermore, nothing has the power of changing my mood like music. 

Last but no least, I hate exercising but love dancing.

I guess  by now my collage has enough justification :)

By the way, they say that moving to music sheds stress, eases pain, and even sharpens the brain.

Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire are dancing to the music in Swing Time (1936). I colored the original black and white photo. Texture by Kim Klassen. Dance to the Music was a hit by Sly and the Family Stone  in 1968.

This week the challenge is Trunks or Boxes  in The Three Muses. The theme reminded me of the song Futuros Amantes by Chico Buarque.  That's why I digged a photo of an old empty box and filled it with fragments of an old and forgotten love story. The words above is an excerpt of the song and means:

Elders in vain

Will try to decipher

Traces of alien civilization

Music: my medicine

Music is the medicine of the breaking heart.  ~Leigh Hunt

To me, music is not only medicine for broken hearts, but for lonely hearts, tired hearts, hopeless hearts. Moreover, it brings color to the joyful moments we share with those we love.

I did this piece by blending two of my own backgrounds and a sheet of music. It's my contribution to this week theme in Take a Word: MUSIC.

This week the theme in Three Muses is SONG LYRIC. I chose Time After Time (Cyndi Lauper & Rob Hyman). Although it is a romantic song, I thought of the mother-child relationship.

Hi, my friends. I'm still stuck with my essay and got my deadline postponed. So, a little bit of fun won't harm anyone, right?

This is my contribution to this week Take a Word theme: NUMBERS. I chose two, after all one is the loneliest number and three's a crowd. :)

By the way, despite tango isn't Brazilians thing, I love it.

Dona Canô: window to the memories

Claudionor Viana Teles Velloso, or Dona Canô, is a 103-year-old beloved lady and mother of the famous Brazilian artists Caetano Veloso e Maria Bethânia. She's so charismatic that became a personality by herself and not only for being their mother.
