snail mailing to stamp people
I love the rebelliousness of snail mail, and I love anything that can arrive with a postage stamp.
There's something about that person's breath and hands on the letter.

Two Shots Of Happy, One Shot Of Sad
The Three Muses asked us to take inspiration from SONG LYRICS or a favorite POEM and create something special. I don't know how I ended up with Two Shots Of Happy, One Shot Of Sad, a song by Bono and The Edge written as a tribute for Frank Sinatra. It was also recorded by Nancy Sinatra, his daughter. I tried not be that obvious, and replace the Jack Daniels by two sweet cats. ^=^
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad
You think I'm no good, well I know I've been bad.
Took you to a place, now you can't get back.
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad.
Walked together down a dead-end street
We were mixing the bitter with the sweet.
Don't try to figure out what we might have had.
Just two shots of happy, one shot of sad.
I'm just a singer, some say a sinner
Rolling the dice, not always a winner.
You say I've been lucky, well hell, I made my own
Not part of the crowd not feeling alone.
Under pressure but not bent out of shape
Surrounded, we always found an escape.
Drove me to drink but hey, that's not all bad.
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad.
Guess I've been greedy all of my life
Greedy with my children, my lovers and my wife.
Greedy for the good things as well as the bad.
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad.
Maybe it's just talk, saloon singing
The chairs are all stacked, the swingers stopped swinging.
You say I hurt you, you put the finger on yourself
Then, after you did it, you came crying for my help.
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad.
I'm not complaining baby, I'm glad.
You call it compromise, well what's that?
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad.
Two shots of happy, one shot of sad.

I am woman
Take a Word
asked for I AM WOMAN. There was some kind of serendipity as I’ve just finished
Unless, by Carol Shields, a study in awakening and the belated loss of innocence. Mainly the author reflects
over the role that is reserved to women: "The world is split in two
between those who are handed power at birth, at gestation, encoded with a
seemingly random chromosome determinate that says yes for ever and ever, and
those like Norah, like Danielle Westerman, like my mother, like my
mother-in-law, like me, like all of us who fall into the uncoded female
otherness in which the power to assert ourselves and claim our lives has been
displaced by a compulsion to shut down our bodies and seal our mouths and be as
nothing against the fireworks and streaking stars and blinding light of the Big
Bang."
Background is mine; doll on the right uses elements by Rebecca Mcmeen; texture by Kim Klassen; words: lyrics of I Am Woman, by Helen Reddy and Ray Burton.

Grandpa's band
Only recently, when my uncle sent this photography to my father by e-mail, I found out that my Grandpa was also a musician or at least played in a band. As the challenge this week in The Three Muses is Vintage Family I decided to pay him a tribute.

Dance to the music
In 2014 dance to the music!
Celebrating the new year the theme in The Three Muses is Color Me Happy.
My color is blue, don't know why, it just makes me happy.
Besides, the old Hollywood musicals always make me happy.
Futhermore, nothing has the power of changing my mood like music.
Last but no least, I hate exercising but love dancing.
I guess by now my collage has enough justification :)
By the way, they say that moving to music sheds stress, eases pain, and even sharpens the brain.
Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire are dancing to the music in Swing Time (1936). I colored the original black and white photo. Texture by Kim Klassen. Dance to the Music was a hit by Sly and the Family Stone in 1968.

Echoes from the past
Ecos do passado
Elders in vain
Will try to decipher
The echo of ancient words
Fragments of letters, poems
Lies, portraits
Traces of alien civilization
If you like you can hear it here.
Thanks to Pati Araujo, Zeldona at Mellowmint, Graphics Fairy and Mariella Corugati.
O desafio em The Three Muses é Baús ou Caixas, o que me lembrou da canção Futuros Amantes, de Chico Buarque.

Music: my medicine
Music is the medicine of the breaking heart. ~Leigh Hunt
To me, music is not only medicine for broken hearts, but for lonely hearts, tired hearts, hopeless hearts. Moreover, it brings color to the joyful moments we share with those we love.
I did this piece by blending two of my own backgrounds and a sheet of music. It's my contribution to this week theme in Take a Word: MUSIC.

Time after time

This week the theme in Three Muses is SONG LYRIC. I chose Time After Time (Cyndi Lauper & Rob Hyman). Although it is a romantic song, I thought of the mother-child relationship.
Overlay is a photo by Bethany Kimmel.

It takes two to tango
Hi, my friends. I'm still stuck with my essay and got my deadline postponed. So, a little bit of fun won't harm anyone, right? This is my contribution to this week Take a Word theme: NUMBERS. I chose two, after all one is the loneliest number and three's a crowd. :)
By the way, despite tango isn't Brazilians thing, I love it.

Nature has its own music
This week the theme is MUSIC in Take a Word and here it is what I've done while listening to the birds sing at my parents' country house. Don't you think that nature has a music of its own?09 - The Sound Of Music

Dona Canô: window to the memories
Claudionor Viana Teles Velloso, or Dona Canô, is a 103-year-old beloved lady and mother of the famous Brazilian artists Caetano Veloso e Maria Bethânia. She's so charismatic that became a personality by herself and not only for being their mother.
Velloso's family photos were googled. Background by Smoko-Stock (deviantArt). The text is actually excerpts from the lyrics of the song Dona Canô you can hear by clicking below.
