A princess or an evil queen? Both! (anything but ordinary)

(please, click to enlarge)

Hello, I hope you had a sweet Christmas (if you celebrate it). This is the picture I put together to attend the Three Muses challenge of the week: all about me.

In these days when movie studios struggle to draw attention to their different versions of Snow White, I found myself thinking that all of us at some point dreamed of being princesses, but deep down we knew that we had our evil queen side. What's good, after all why be the silly princess instead of the sexy witch? ^=^ No wonder actresses prefer the role of the antagonist instead of the nice girl...

Well, back to my digital collage, I took two pictures of different versions of Snow White and switched the beautiful faces of the actresses for mine (the one I had kind of 10 years ago or so - I confess) to represent these two sides that we all have: the brighter one we show in the light of day and the other, darker, we try to suppress or at least keep to ourselves.

I also used two textures (Brighteyesgal, GRSites) and a free wallpaper.

Santa and Rudolph on vacation

Cheers! After a year long hard working, Santa decided to leave the Christmas gifts' delivery in the hands of his beloved reindeer Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen, and went on vacation to Cancun, accompanied by his best friend, Rudolph the Red Nosed reindeer. Unfortunately, poor Rudolph ain't accustomed to the hot weather...

It takes two to tango

Hi, my friends. I'm still stuck with my essay and got my deadline postponed. So, a little bit of fun won't harm anyone, right?

This is my contribution to this week Take a Word theme: NUMBERS. I chose two, after all one is the loneliest number and three's a crowd. :)

By the way, despite tango isn't Brazilians thing, I love it.

Just a blackbird by company (and a few ghosts)

Poor Laura! Things started to go wrong when she adopted a crow as a pet, then she was hearing voices. By this time, people of the village have already brought back stories about a curse. Long story short, as she kept seeing ghosts everywhere, they locked her up in the North Tower. But, hey, she's not going to get any better this way, is she?

Hi, guys! Getting in the spirit of Halloween, I'm offering this slightly creepy Digital collage to Take a Word which theme this week is BLACKBIRD.

Background is a photo I took in Santiago de Cuba, Laura is a Ziegfeld Girl (Dr Macro); crow by peroni68 (dA), Overlays by poisomgirl815 and darkrose42 stock (dA).

Devil in the Bottle

Hey, you! The little one has escaped! And it's growing really fast!

Brazilian folklore has this legend about a devil in a bottle. It seems to be a Portuguese heritage and it has nothing to do with alcoholism as in the songs of Lynyrd Skynyrd or TG Sheppard. Instead it is a small imp or demon kept in a bottle that can grant to its owner power and money. It has similarities to Robert Louis Stevenson's tale "The Bottle Imp".

To whom that is interested in owning a devil in the bottle, the recommendation is, first of all, celebrate a demonic pact. Then one will have to get the egg from which will emerge an about 15 cm imp. In some regions people say that it’s a chicken egg fertilized by Lucifer. Others believe that it's a rooster (?) egg.

Believers have to seek it during the Lent. After finding the egg the owner will carry it under his left arm and take it on the first following Friday before midnight at a crossroads, and wait there for the next day. In the early hours of Saturday, he will return home, keep the egg in a safe place and take a deserved rest. Forty days later, a devil will be born, it should be immediately locked up in a clear glass bottle tightly closed, to avoid any unforeseen nasty event. Hereafter, over the years, the devil will enrich its owner, and after his death, will take his soul to where nobody knows... but can imagine.

By the way, this is my entry for this week Three Muses challenge: BOTTLE.

Tintarella Di Luna

Jessie, a Californian girl, loves the beach; sunbathing, surfing, beautiful people... But her husband Tun Tan Mei is categoric: she's got to keep her paleness, something highly appreciated in his country. He also dislikes those small swimsuits American girls wears (he hasn't been introduced to Brazilian bikini yet). Therefore, she's begun to do moonbathing, she likes it, it's quite calm, but she's afraid to start to howl to the full moon...

This is my entry to The Three Muses, which challenge this week is MOON.

Jessie is a Ziegfeld girl (Dr macro) that I digitally colored; Textures: poisongirl815 (dA) and Krikk; Wolf by Daniel J. Cox/Naturalexposures.com

Me and my brothers

This week the theme in Take a Word is ALBUM. Coincidently I've been working on a album for my mother made of old photos and slides that I've scanned and restored. It was for Mother's day on May, but until now I couldn't finish it. Well, these are 3 of its pages.

Fashion editorial by June 1967

Next Sunday, June 4, 1967, will be published fashion editorial in the newspaper Nightly Comet bringing the latest trends for summer. By the way, it's amazing the size of the skirts the girls wear today. Judging by them, in the year 2000 people will be walking naked through the streets!

Time flies, enjoy today

As a teenager I used to admire her beauty and vitality. Time passed, I almost forgot about her. Then, she had to face her illness and the way she fought it, her humanity, fragility and sincerity made me fall in love with her again. That's why I took her example to remind me (us) that time flies, life is short and the best we do is enjoy each day (without betraying ourselves).

This is my entry for this week Take a Word theme: Time.

Farrah Fawcett photos and backgrounds were googled; clocks: Dover and Graphicsfairy.

Dona Canô: window to the memories

Claudionor Viana Teles Velloso, or Dona Canô, is a 103-year-old beloved lady and mother of the famous Brazilian artists Caetano Veloso e Maria Bethânia. She's so charismatic that became a personality by herself and not only for being their mother.

Velloso's family photos were googled. Background by Smoko-Stock (deviantArt). The text is actually excerpts from the lyrics of the song Dona Canô you can hear by clicking below.

Women and cars

At the beginning we were drived or we lended glamour by posing beside them. But that became old-fashioned and we finally conquered the right of being behind wheels. Nowadays we can even choose not to drive, after all we have a whole bunch of more ecological choices, like the old bike or the new segway...

This is my take on the this week theme in Take a Word: OLD-FASHIONED.

I'm Old Fashioned

Hats? Hats!

Marion loves hats, but as good Libra, have a tough time choosing them. Right now, her problem is to choose one for a costume party. Yes! She first chooses the hat and then the clothes that fit them. If you were her, which hat would you choose?

This is my contribution for this week Three Muses challenge.

All Hepburn photos at Doctor Macro.

This is Phyllis, a collage a la Suzanne Sbarge for Digitalmania. As she has a flower-hat, I think she qualifies for the challenge too.

Twiggy Face

Hi! This week the theme in Take a Word is FACES. I decided to stick to just one: Twiggy's. She had the most incredibly striking face of our time. Altough she was probably too skinny those eyes was impressive.

Clumsy angel

If only I could play...

Hi, folks! I’m back! I was on vacation, then I had this project on deadline… Well, now I can do a little of this a little of that (those useless stuff I love…).

This is my collage for this week challenge on Three Muses: Angelic.

My angel has wings, they aren’t on the photo - which I took in Cuba - but they are there! The soccer game bellow him is a Portinari’s painting with some Portinari’s add-ons.

Cândido Portinari Torquato (1903 - 1962) is one of the most prestigious Brazilian painter. He was a prolific artist, unfortunately he left us early poisoned by the paints that made him famous.

Texture by Struckdumb. Foot cast was googled.

The miraculous staircase

Hi, folks. This is my entry for this week Three Muses Challenge: Stairs.

When the Loretto Chapel, in Santa Fe - New Mexico, was completed in 1878, there was no way to access the choir loft twenty-two feet above. Legend says that the Sisters of the Chapel made a novena to St. Joseph. On the ninth and final day of prayer, a man appeared at the Chapel with a donkey and a toolbox looking for work. Months later, the elegant circular staircase was completed, and the carpenter disappeared without pay or thanks. Some concluded that he was St. Joseph himself, having come in answer to the sisters' prayers. The stairway's carpenter, whoever he was, built a magnificent structure. The staircase has two 360 degree turns and no visible means of support. Also, it is said that it was built without nails—only wooden pegs.

Something to retire to...

- Hey, handsome! Are you going to paint me too?
Billizetti received us for a delicious retirement mad tea party, unfortunately most of us forgot to bring a gift, what made him very disgusted. To redeem myself I made this digital collage in his honor. I am very optimistic about Bill's retirement, because he has something to retire to: his ART.
This picture also apply to this week Take a Word Challenge: BEACH.

Painter palette and hat were googled, everything else by Beth Rimmer. Quote by Harry Emerson Fosdick.

Spider woman

Hi, after some tough days, I'm back. The theme at "Take a Word" is INSECTS and as I'm not a fan of bugs, flies and cockroaches, I chose spiders even if they are not insects. If you are aracnophobic, sorry...
My spider woman is Sonia Braga, brazilian actress, in Hector Babenco's movie The Kiss of The Spider Woman. All spiders and the spider web were photographed by me.

About books

Some say that many English speakers don't like Jules Verne because of the quality of some translations of his books. I don't know, if so, it is a pity. This week the challenge at Three Muses is the written word, I decided then to bring an inspiring quote from Steampunk's father I consider appropriate for the theme. Hope you like it.

Background and most of the elements by Finecrafted Design, I found the books at Steampunk Scholar Bogspot.

Poor Steampunk Clara! She was kidnapped by an evil genius. How long does she need to seduce her guard and escape from that goddamn fortress? Not much, I guess.

Hi, fellows! This is my contribution to the brand new blog 52 Starlet Art Challenge. This week the movie star is CLARA BOW.

I found the photo of Clara Bow in the blog A Mythical Monkey, then I put some color in it. Steampunk elements by Finecrafted Designs.
